Konstruktivism
These graphic photographs of urban environments capture scenes devoid of any discernable location, presenting familiar subjects in abstracted and varied perspectives. Both formal and contemplative, the images appear to capture lonely fragments of architecture standing in the silence of void spaces.
Influenced by film noir, my work relies on low-key lighting which lends to the drama and geometry in these theatrical portraits of architecture. Light is central to my work and the contiguity of luminous natural light and pools of darkness emphasizes shadows and silhouettes that create harsh contrasts, a sense of volume, and depth.
The mood is reminiscent of the dim interiors of gothic churches with pockets of light filtering through narrow windows and deepening the shadows.
